Over the last 8 years, we have become involved in our community, which includes a deeper relationship with those in our community that identify as LGBTQ++. Two years ago, a member of our community who offers counseling to members of the LGBTQ++ community who have experienced violence in their relationships asked if he could use our building for such counseling sessions. We were honored to offer him space and support his work. This fall, we celebrated our first same sex marriage in our sanctuary. In the coming weeks, we hope to work with local physicians to offer a medical consultation for folks who are transgender. In the deep south, this is a very difficult path to walk. People who identify as transgender can be treated with great prejudice in the medical community).
