Even before the Presbyterian Church USA began its deliberations to change its constitution to ordain and marry LGBTQI+ members, Elmhurst Presbyterian Church was having discussions at the leadership level on how to make our church more welcoming to the LGBTQI+ community. EPC embraces change, particularly on issues of social justice. LGBTQI+ members have served as Sunday school teachers, youth leaders, and Ruling Elders. We recently had an interim pastor who is a member of the LGBTQI+ community. Our Presbytery Commissioners have actively advocated for LGBTQI+ pro-rights policies at the Presbytery and General Assembly levels. We continue to examine ways in which our journey becomes more inclusive because we are committed to the ideal of living in a community of equality with all of Christ’s followers.
