St. Philip Presbyterian ChurchSt. Philip Presbyterian Church
Although not being an official “More Light” church, St. Philip Presbyterian Church in Houston, TX, has had a long and supportive involvement with the organization. Beginning in the late 1990s there were St. Philippians, individually and as members of the church’s Peacemaking Committee, who worked actively with such organizations as TAMFS, PLGC, Covenant Network, and MLP. CovNet and MLP were supported for many years from the Peacemaking and Mission Committees’ funds. In 2010, St. Philip hosted the national CovNet conference and we noted our CovNet affiliation on the church’s website. However, perhaps out of concern over a formal affiliation with what has been perceived to be the more activist stance of MLP, attempts had never been made, until recently, to seek the endorsement of the St. Philip Session to become a More Light church. We reached that milestone this year and, with some concerned but minority opposition, our Session now has endorsed full membership in the MLP organization.
