44 years ago, in 1975, Rev. David Sindt stood up on the floor of the General Assembly of the PC(USA) holding up a sign that read, “Is anyone else out there gay?” That sign led to the formation of Presbyterians for Gay Concerns, which later became Presbyterians for Lesbian and Gay Concerns. 4 years later, the denomination ruled that openly LGBTQIA+ people could join and participate in Presbyterian churches, but not serve in official leadership of the church. Several Presbyterian churches took issue with this ruling and declared themselves to be “More Light” Churches because there was “yet more light to shine forth on the scriptures” on the place of LGBTQIA+ people in the life and leadership of the denomination.
In honor and celebration of Rev. Sindt’s actions and of the 40th anniversary of More Light Presbyterians, these limited edition t-shirts are a great way to honor our past and look to the future.
