In today’s divisive and challenging cultural climate, we believe that it is important to be a beacon of love that warmly welcomes all in our community. We are all created in the image of God and called to share God’s light with the world. As Jesus said, “Let you light shine before others so that they may see your good works and give glory to God in heaven.” Becoming a More Light congregation isn’t about us being good; it’s about others having the opportunity to see that God is good and is love.

This affirmation has been a long time coming for our congregation. For many years, our church has held an open table policy, affirming all who come as beloved children of God. We celebrated same-sex weddings before the denomination formally approved the measure and have installed a lesbian pastor. While one might think that people would know we are open and affirming, we have come to understand that we have a moral imperative to formally acknowledge, in bold, radical ways, that all are welcome in this place.
