For Hillsborough Presbyterian Church, becoming a More Light congregation is a way for us to make clear our inclusive status to those looking for a welcoming church family.
In 2013, during a time of transition in our church, HPC sought to formally embrace and publically acknowledge qualities that our congregation already embodied. We were already a very open, accepting, questioning, and exploring group of journeyers. We decided at the time to claim the identity of being progressive Christians, and recrafted our mission statement to reflect that we are Accepting, Helping, Guiding. Since that time, HPC has proudly flown a rainbow flag from our sign and have joyfully welcomed all who come to join us on the journey. We have tried to make clear on our website that we are a place where you will receive our love and God’s love no matter your sexual orientation, gender identity, race, class, or religion. Becoming More Light will help us to more effectively get this message of inclusion and love out to those who are seeking it.
